Georgiana is an elaborated feminine form of George, from the Greek georgos, which means "farmer" or "earth-worker". It was fashionable among the English aristocracy of the 18th century, when Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, was its most celebrated bearer, and Jane Austen gave it to Mr. Darcy's sister in Pride and Prejudice. In the United States Georgiana ranked number 3544 in 2000 and has slowly gained ground to number 1418 in 2025, its best rank this century.
