Juliana is the feminine form of the Latin Julianus, from Julius, the Roman family name, and is usually explained as "youthful" or "downy-bearded", from the Greek ioulos. Queen Juliana ruled the Netherlands for more than thirty years, and the name is a favorite in Spanish-, Portuguese- and Italian-speaking families. In the United States Juliana rose from number 241 in 2000 to a peak of number 146 in 2010 and ranks number 256 among girls' names in 2025.
