Eleanora is an elaborated form of Eleanor, which goes back to the Occitan Aliénor of Eleanor of Aquitaine; its meaning is uncertain, often read as "the other Aenor" after her mother or linked through Helen to the Greek word for "light". The Italian-style ending gives it the full romantic sweep of Eleanora Duse, the celebrated stage actress. Eleanora entered the US top 1000 in 2023 and ranks number 865 among girls in 2025, its best rank yet.
