Elizabeth is the English form of the Hebrew Elisheva and means "God is my oath" or "my God is abundance"; in the New Testament it is the name of the mother of John the Baptist. Two queens of England gave it royal weight, and in America it has never left the top 30 since the SSA records began in 1880. Elizabeth was ninth in 2000, has been in the top 20 every year since and ranks seventeenth in 2025.
