Casper is the Dutch and Scandinavian form of Jasper, traditionally the name of one of the three Magi who brought gifts to the infant Jesus; it is thought to come from Persian and to mean "treasurer". Many Americans still think first of Casper the Friendly Ghost, but the name has shed the joke and is now a hip choice in Europe. Casper climbed from number 1755 in 2015 to the top 1000 in 2024, peaked at number 881 that year and ranks 924th in 2025.
