Azul is the Spanish word for "blue", which ultimately goes back to the Persian lazhward, the source of lapis lazuli. It is a modern Spanish-language name, chosen for the color of the sea and sky, and in the United States it is used almost entirely by Hispanic families. Azul entered the top 1000 in 2007, peaked at number 615 in 2008, slipped out again within a few years and ranks number 1319 in 2025.
