Celeste is the French and English form of the Latin caelestis and means "heavenly" or "of the sky"; the word gave English its adjective celestial. It carries a serene, old-fashioned elegance and has been used in America since the 19th century. Celeste has been in the US top 1000 since 2000, when it ranked number 275; after dipping to number 500 in 2015 it has climbed every year and reaches number 188 in 2025, its highest rank ever.
