Avir is a modern Hebrew name that means "air", a nature word that became a given name in Israel in the late 20th century along with Tal, dew, and Shaked, almond. Its two crisp syllables match Amir and Asher, which helps explain its appeal among American Jewish families. In the United States Avir had fewer than five births in 2000, ranked number 8102 in 2015 and has climbed to a peak of number 1777 in 2024 and number 2006 in 2025.
