Atreus

What does the name Atreus mean?

Atreus is a name from Greek mythology: the king of Mycenae and father of Agamemnon and Menelaus. Its meaning is uncertain, but it is usually explained as "fearless", from a-, without, and treo, to tremble. Almost no American boy carried the name until the 2018 video game God of War introduced Atreus as the young son of its hero. It entered the top 1000 in 2019, peaked at number 457 in 2023 and ranks number 582 in 2025.
