Apollo is the Greek god of the sun, music, healing and prophecy; the meaning of the name is uncertain and is sometimes explained as "destroyer" or connected to apella, an "assembly". For Americans it carries the glory of the Apollo space program and the 1969 moon landing. The god's name was long thought too grand for a baby, but it entered the US top 1000 in 2012, climbed to number 389 in 2022 and ranks number 445 in 2025.
