Vera is the Russian word for "faith" and one of the classic Russian virtue names, but it is also understood through the Latin verus as "true". It was fashionable across Europe and America around 1900 and now returns with the same vintage charm as Ada and Hazel; designer Vera Wang is its best-known American bearer. Vera re-entered the US top 1000 in 2009 and has climbed from number 311 in 2015 to number 205 in 2025, its highest rank in this century.
