Andres is the Spanish form of Andrew, from the Greek Andreas, which means "manly" or "brave". Saint Andrew was the first apostle called by Jesus, and in Spanish-speaking countries the name has never gone out of style. Andres has been one of the steadiest names in the United States, ranking number 164 in 2000, peaking at number 152 in 2007 and holding between 197 and 228 for the whole past decade; it stands at number 200 in 2025.
