Amber is the English word for the golden fossil resin used in jewelry, which came from the Arabic anbar by way of Old French; as a name it simply means "amber", the warm honey color. It was one of the signature girls' names of the 1980s and 1990s, when it sat in the top 20. Amber was still number 47 in 2000 but has dropped out of the top 100 and down to number 520 in 2025.
