Zyair is a modern American coinage that respells Zaire, the former name of the Congo and its great river, with the fashionable Zy- opening of names like Zyon and Zayden; it has no traditional meaning and is best read as "a modern form of Zaire". Zaire itself goes back to a Portuguese rendering of a Kikongo word for "river". Zyair entered the US top 1000 in 2020, peaked at number 685 in 2024 and ranks number 759 in 2025.
