Zion is the Hebrew name of the hill in Jerusalem on which King David built his city, and by extension stands for the "promised land" and the "heavenly city" of Jewish and Christian hope. Lauryn Hill's 1998 song To Zion, written for her son, brought it into wide use as a boys' name in America. Zion ranked 300th in the United States in 2000, climbed steadily to a peak of number 125 in 2023 and ranks 142nd in 2025.
