Zachary is the English form of the Hebrew Zechariah, which means "God remembers" or "the Lord has remembered"; the prophet Zechariah and the father of John the Baptist both bore it. President Zachary Taylor and a long run in the top 20 made it a thoroughly American classic. Zachary was number 15 among US boys' names in 2000, slipped out of the top 100 in 2017 and ranks number 216 in 2025, while the short form Zach lives on.
