Younes is the French-influenced North African spelling of the Arabic Yunus, the Quranic form of Jonah, a Hebrew name that means "dove". The prophet Yunus, swallowed by a great fish, has a chapter of the Quran named after him, and the spelling Younes is especially common among Moroccan, Algerian and Tunisian families. In the United States Younes has risen from number 6307 in 2000 to number 2143 in 2025, its best rank so far.
