Wynn has two roots: the Welsh gwyn, meaning "white", "fair" or "blessed", and the Old English wine, "friend". Long a Welsh surname and an occasional boys' name, it has recently been taken up for girls as a crisp one-syllable choice in the style of Wren and Quinn. For girls Wynn barely registered in 2000, at number 14963; it climbed to number 2184 in 2021 and reached number 1709 in 2025, its best rank yet.
