Wateen is an Arabic name taken from the word watin, the "aorta" or "vein of the heart", and is given in the sense of "lifeline", someone as vital as the heart's own artery. It has become fashionable in the Gulf states in the past decade and has traveled with Arab-American families. Wateen was practically unknown in the United States in 2015, at number 12940, reached number 3887 in 2022 and ranks 1806 in 2025, its highest rank so far.
