Mariam is the Arabic, Georgian and Armenian form of Mary and Miriam, the name of the mother of Jesus, who has her own chapter in the Quran; like Mary it is of uncertain meaning, usually explained as "beloved" or "sea of bitterness". It is widely used among Muslim and Christian families from the Middle East and Africa. Mariam has been in the US top 1000 since 2000, reached number 491 in 2024 and ranks number 505 in 2025.
