Noor is the Arabic word for "light" and is one of the names of God in the Quran, which makes it a popular choice for both girls and boys across the Muslim world. Queen Noor of Jordan, born Lisa Halaby in Washington, D.C., gave the name an American connection. In the United States Noor was number 991 in 2015, has been in the top 1000 since then and climbed to 659 in 2025, its best rank so far.
