Jana is the feminine form of Jan, the Czech, Slovak, Dutch and German form of John, and so means "God is gracious"; in Arabic Jana is a separate name meaning "harvest" or "fruit of paradise". It is one of the most common women's names in the Czech Republic and is also popular in Germany, Spain and the Arab world, which gives it a truly international reach. In the United States Jana peaked at number 887 in 2002, left the top 1000 in 2019 and ranks number 1,247 in 2025.
