Timoteo is the Spanish, Portuguese and Italian form of Timothy, from the Greek Timotheos, which means "honoring God" or "honored by God". The biblical Timothy was a young companion of the apostle Paul, and two New Testament letters are addressed to him. In the United States Timoteo is a rare name used mainly in Hispanic families; it climbed to number 2754 in 2025, its best rank so far, with 47 births.
