Theodor is the German and Scandinavian spelling of Theodore, from the Greek Theodoros, and means "gift of God". Americans may not realize that Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Seuss Geisel, and the name has ridden in the slipstream of Theodore's spectacular rise. In the United States Theodor moved from number 4188 in 2000 to a peak of number 1814 in 2019 and ranks number 2004 in 2025.
