Tamia is a modern American name of uncertain origin, usually explained as a short form of Tamara or a variation on Tamika; by that reading it carries Tamara's meaning of "date palm". The Canadian R&B singer Tamia made it widely known in the late 1990s. It entered the US top 1000 in 2000 at number 424, peaked at number 358 in 2001 and has since fallen to number 2954 in 2025.
