Tamara is the Russian form of the Hebrew Tamar and means "date palm", a biblical image of grace and uprightness. Queen Tamar, who ruled Georgia at its medieval height, and the Art Deco painter Tamara de Lempicka are its best-known bearers; in America it was a favorite of the 1970s. Tamara ranked number 417 in 2000, peaked at number 374 in 2002, had fallen to number 1315 by 2015 and ranks 1816 in 2025.
