Sion has two faces: it is the Welsh form of John, pronounced like Shawn and meaning "God is gracious", and it is also an older English spelling of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem that stands for the heavenly city. Most American parents today use it as a sleeker version of Zion. Sion stood at number 4041 in 2000, reached its best rank of 2942 in 2023 and sits at number 2981 in 2025.
