Santos is the Spanish and Portuguese word for "saints" and comes from the feast of Todos los Santos, All Saints' Day on November 1, when children born on that date were traditionally given the name. It is also a common surname, as in the Brazilian port city and the football club where Pelé played. In the United States Santos ranked number 749 in 2000, left the top 1000 for a while and has been back since 2019; it stands at number 766 in 2025.
