Santiel is a modern coinage from Spanish-speaking families that joins the first part of Santiago or santo, "holy", to the -el ending of angel names such as Gabriel and Uriel. It has no history outside the Americas and no fixed meaning beyond that pleasing echo. Santiel was barely used in 2015, at number 9422, but has risen every year since to number 1345 in 2025, its best rank so far.
