Uriel is a Hebrew name that means "God is my light", from or, "light", and El, "God". It belongs to one of the archangels of Jewish and Christian tradition, often shown holding a flame or a book, and appears in Milton's Paradise Lost. In the United States Uriel is chosen mostly by Hispanic and Jewish families; it has been in the top 1000 all century, peaked at number 386 in 2008 and ranks number 446 in 2025.
