Sabina is a Latin name meaning "Sabine woman", after the Sabines, an ancient people of central Italy whose women were famously abducted by the first Romans according to legend. St. Sabina, a Roman martyr of the second century, gave the name to a basilica on the Aventine Hill, and it is used today across Italy, Spain and Eastern Europe. In the United States Sabina ranked number 1644 in 2000, peaked at number 1497 in 2001 and stands at number 2579 in 2025.
