Sabrina comes from the Latin name of the Severn, the longest river in Britain, and is best understood as "from the River Severn"; its deeper meaning is unknown, though legend tells of a princess drowned in its waters. The 1954 film Sabrina with Audrey Hepburn and later Sabrina the Teenage Witch made it a familiar American name. Sabrina ranked 92nd in 2000, its last year in the top 100, and stands at number 321 in 2025.
