Rowyn is a modern spelling of Rowan, which comes from the Irish surname Ó Ruadháin and means "little red one", from the Gaelic ruadh, red; in England it is also the name of the rowan tree with its bright red berries. The -yn ending marks the name as a girls' form of the unisex Rowan. Rowyn ranked number 10565 in the United States in 2000, entered the top 1000 in 2024 and reached number 699 in 2025, its best rank so far.
