Pinchas is the Hebrew form of Phinehas, the zealous grandson of Aaron in the Book of Numbers; the name is of Egyptian origin and is usually explained as "the Nubian" or "dark-skinned", though a folk reading makes it "mouth of brass". It is a traditional name in Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish communities, and the violinist Pinchas Zukerman is its best-known modern bearer. In the United States Pinchas stood at number 3508 in 2000 and reached its best rank, number 2528, in 2025.
