Osiel is a Spanish-language name used mainly in Mexico and among Mexican American families; its origin is uncertain and it is usually explained as a Spanish form of the biblical Uzziel, "God is my strength", or as a variant of Oziel. Its soft -iel ending links it to Uriel, Misael and Azael. Osiel has stayed outside the US top 1000, but it has risen sharply from number 2208 in 2017 to number 1166 in 2023 and ranks 1454 in 2025.
