Osvaldo is the Spanish, Portuguese and Italian form of Oswald, an Old English name made up of os, god, and weald, power or ruler, so it means "divine ruler" or "god's power". Saint Oswald was a 7th-century king of Northumbria, and the Romance form is common in Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. In the United States Osvaldo ranked number 540 in 2000, peaked at number 410 in 2004, left the top 1000 in 2016 and stands at number 1408 in 2025.
