Olivia comes from the Latin word oliva and means "olive" or "olive tree", an ancient symbol of peace and fruitfulness. Shakespeare gave the name to the countess in Twelfth Night, which carried it into the English-speaking world. In the United States Olivia has been a top 10 name since 2001 and has held the number one spot for girls every year since 2019.
