Natalie comes from the Latin natalis, "birthday", after the phrase dies natalis Domini, the birthday of the Lord, so it originally meant "born on Christmas Day". The French Natalie and the Russian Natalia spread through Europe before actress Natalie Wood made the name popular in postwar America. Natalie ranked number 34 in 2000 and number 13 in 2008, has stayed in the top 100 every year since 2000 and is number 89 in 2025.
