Mars is the name of the Roman "god of war" and of the red planet named after him; the month of March also honors him. The name's meaning in Latin is uncertain and probably older than Rome itself. As a baby name it joined the wave of mythological picks like Atlas, Orion and Apollo, helped by singer Bruno Mars. Mars has risen in the United States from number 3950 in 2015 to a peak of number 1256 in 2023 and ranks at number 1615 in 2025.
