Maple is an English nature name taken from the "maple tree", from Old English mapul. The sugar maple gives North America its syrup and its most spectacular fall colors, and the leaf is the emblem of Canada, which gives the name a warm, homegrown feel. Maple was almost unused as a first name in 2000 and has climbed in the United States from number 2493 in 2015 to number 1092 in 2025, its best rank yet.
