Maevis is a modern American blend of two vintage names: Maeve, the Irish name of the legendary queen of Connacht that means "intoxicating" or "she who intoxicates", and Mavis, an old English word for the "song thrush". The result sounds like a grandmother's name that never quite existed. Maevis had fewer than five births in 2000, ranked number 7851 in 2015 and has climbed every year since, reaching its best rank, number 2474, in 2025 with 72 girls.
