Maceo is a Spanish and Afro-Cuban name of uncertain origin, usually explained as a variant of Mateo, which would give it the Hebrew meaning "gift of God". It is best known from Antonio Maceo, the general of Cuba's independence wars, and from funk saxophonist Maceo Parker, who played with James Brown. In the United States Maceo peaked at number 1675 in 2017 and ranks 2200 in 2025 with 65 births.
