Milo is a Germanic name of uncertain origin, usually explained through the Old German mild, meaning "merciful" or "gentle", and later associated with the Latin miles, "soldier". The wrestler Milo of Croton was a legendary champion of the ancient Olympic Games. Milo ranked number 1113 in 2000, entered the top 1000 in 2001 and has risen steadily from number 288 in 2015 to number 119 in 2025, its best rank so far.
