Lucero is the Spanish word for a "bright star", especially the "morning star", and comes from the Latin lux, light; it is also a Marian title, Lucero de la Mañana. The Mexican singer and actress Lucero, a star of telenovelas since the 1980s, made it a given name for many Mexican American girls. Lucero entered the top 1000 in 2005, peaked at number 957 in 2007 and has eased back to number 1515 in 2025.
