Luciana is the Italian, Spanish and Portuguese feminine form of the Roman Lucianus, a derivative of Lucius, and means "light" or "born at daybreak", from the Latin lux. Shakespeare used it for the gentle sister in The Comedy of Errors, and it gives the nicknames Lucy and Lucia with a more flowing full form. Luciana entered the US top 1000 in 2006, climbed from number 468 in 2015 to number 273 among girls' names in 2025, its best rank so far.
