Lorena is the Spanish and Italian form of Lorraine, the French region whose name goes back to Lotharingia, the "kingdom of Lothar". In the United States the name has two histories: the sentimental ballad Lorena was sung by soldiers on both sides of the Civil War, and later waves of Hispanic families kept it in use. Lorena stood at number 518 in 2000, peaked at number 510 in 2002, dropped out of the top 1000 in the 2010s and has held close to number 1280 for a decade, ranking number 1293 in 2025.
