Lorelei is the name of a steep rock on the Rhine and of the legendary siren who lured sailors to their deaths there; the German Lurlei is usually explained as "murmuring rock", from a word for murmuring and ley, "rock". Heinrich Heine's 1824 poem spread the legend, and the television series Gilmore Girls made Lorelai a familiar name to American viewers. Lorelei has been in the US top 1000 since 2004 and reaches number 441 in 2025, its best rank so far.
