Logan is a Scottish surname from a place in Ayrshire, from the Gaelic lagan, and means "little hollow". It became a popular first name in North America in the late 20th century, and the X-Men character Wolverine, whose real name is Logan, helped it along. Logan ranked number 40 in the United States in 2000, rose to number five in 2017, its one appearance in the top five, and has settled back to number 53 among boys in 2025.
