Leviathan is the Hebrew Livyatan, the great sea creature of the books of Job and Psalms, whose name is usually linked to a root meaning "twisted" or "coiled". Thomas Hobbes used it in 1651 as the title of his treatise on the state, and today it simply means anything enormous. As a given name it is a bold recent choice: number 11473 in 2000, a best rank of 1761 in 2020 and number 2964 in 2025.
