Javi is the everyday Spanish short form of Javier, the Spanish version of Xavier. That name comes from the Basque place name Etxeberria, "new house", the birthplace of Saint Francis Xavier. Once only a nickname, Javi now appears on American birth certificates in its own right: it has climbed from number 5389 in 2015 to number 1991 in 2023, its best rank, and stands at number 2370 in 2025.
